Help Me with My Dissertation!

Sooo.....

I need to write a dissertation for my university degree, and it's due in November 2024. Instead of lounging around, sipping cocktails on a beach somewhere, binge-watching Netflix, or taking it easy, here I am, knee-deep in research.

Just kidding—I'm actually really excited and passionate about my topic! (Seriously, I am!)

What's the Dissertation About?

My dissertation is titled: "Anything for the Shot: Exploring the Motivations, Risks, Psychological, and Philosophical Underpinnings of Adventure Photographers." (Might make the title shorter, it's TBC for now)

Why This Topic?

Adventure photography has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I'm captivated by those breathtaking, heart-stopping images that tell epic stories. What drives me is not just the stunning visuals, but the incredible dedication and courage behind the lens. I want to understand what motivates photographers to scale the highest peaks, dive into the deepest oceans, and brave the harshest environments to capture that perfect shot. This project is a personal journey into the world that inspires me, and I’m eager to explore the motivations, risks, and philosophies that define adventure photography. My dissertation will cover the history of photographers and filmmakers who risk their lives or equipment for a photo, and delve into the experiences of modern-day war photographers, adventure photographers, journalists, and more.

How You Can Help

Do you have a trip or expedition coming up? Have you ever pushed yourself to the limit to get that perfect shot? If so, I’d love to hear from you! Your insights and stories are invaluable to my research.

Get Involved

  • Join Me on an Expedition: If you have an upcoming adventure, maybe I could tag along (I promise not to slow you down too much!). Experiencing these journeys firsthand will provide invaluable context and depth to my research.

  • Share Your Stories: Let’s have a friendly chat about your experiences, motivations, and what drives you to risk it all for the shot. I’m eager to learn about the challenges you face, the moments of triumph, and the philosophy that underpins your work.

I love getting to know individuals, listening to their stories, and understanding what drives them. My camera is my constant companion, helping me document the beauty and intensity of the natural world. This dissertation is not just an academic requirement; it’s a personal quest to delve into the heart of what makes adventure photographers tick and to share their incredible stories with the world.
